Farhan Akhtar ( Urdu : فرہان اَختر; Hindi : फ़र्हन अख्तर; born January 9, 1974 in Bombay ) is an Indian actor and film director .

Life

Farhan Akhtar is the son of screenwriter, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani . He is also the grandson of Urdu - poet Jan Nisar Akhtar . His stepmother is the actress Shabana Azmi . His sister Zoya Akhtar is also a director.

Career

Akhtar made his directorial debut in 2001 with Dil Chahta Hai , a comedy drama starring Aamir Khan and Preity Zinta . The film became very successful.

The next project Courage to Make a Decision - Lakshya (2004) did not become a box office hit, but it got the critics on his side.

In 2006 he shot the remake of the classic Don from 1978 under the name Don - The Game Begins . The main role then occupied by Amitabh Bachchan took over in the remake Shah Rukh Khan . In 2011 Akhtar wrote the script again and directed the sequel Don - The King is back in which Priyanka Chopra was cast as an agent.
