In addition to his career as an actor, he has also been a successful producer in the Bollywood film industry since the turn of the millennium .

Life

family

Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri (2014)

Shah Rukh Khan was born and raised in New Delhi . His Muslim family is from Peshawar ; the addition of "Khan" to the name indicates his Afghan - Pashtun origins. His mother Fatima was a social worker in Delhi and died in 1991 of sepsis . His father Taj Mohammed was a lawyer and died of cancer in 1981 . Shah Rukh has an older sister named Shehnaz (nickname: Lala Rukh).

Shah Rukh Khan has been married to Gauri (born October 8, 1970), who comes from a Hindu family, since 1991 and has three children with her: two sons, Aryan and AbRam (* 1997 and * 2013), and a daughter, Suhana ( * 2000). Aryan already has film experience. In Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham he played the character Rahul as a little boy, embodied by his father. AbRam can be seen in the credits of Happy New Year with his father. AbRam was born through surrogacy because the risk of a new pregnancy was too great for Gauri Khan.

Acting career

He had his first role in the television series Fauji , in which he played the soldier Abhimanyu Rai. He then played a small role in the series Circus (1989), which is about the life of circus artists. In the same year he played his first film role in Pradip Krishen's television film In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones . After the death of his parents, Khan moved from New Delhi to Mumbai. There he made his Bollywood debut with the film Deewana (1992), which became a hit. After initially playing the lover, he was soon cast in villain roles. In the films Darr and Baazigar , he played the anti-hero and obsessive lover. The later change from villain back to romantic hero is rather unusual in Bollywood and makes Shah Rukh an exception.

Especially as a film couple with Kajol , he became the romantic hero of the commercial Hindi film of the 1990s. With Baazigar (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - First Come, Get the Bride (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), My Name Is Khan (2010 ) and Dilwale (2015) were both very successful in India . My Name is Khan is the most successful Bollywood film abroad to date. Khan and Kajol are considered the most successful and popular Indian film couple of all time.

In 2014, Khan starred in Farah Khan's Happy New Year , which had the highest first-day earnings in Indian film history. In addition, the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is showing - first come has the bride for more than 1000 consecutive weeks in Indian cinemas.

Shah Rukh Khan owns several of his own production companies (Dreamz Unlimited / Red Chillies) and a cricket team called Knight Riders . In India it is also an advertising medium for cola manufacturers, watch manufacturers, cell phone network operators and skin lightening cream.

Khan was awarded the Padma Shri in 2006. There has been a wax figure of Khan in Madame Tussauds in London since March 2007 and one in Calcutta since 2014 . In 2007 he was the presenter of “ Kaun Banega Crorepati ”, the Indian edition of “ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? ". As a television presenter, he also directed “ Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? "Similar to" Every child knows that! ".

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
