Pradip Krishen

Pradip Krishen ( Hindi प्रदीप कृष्ण Pradīp Kṛṣṇ ; * 1949 in New Delhi ) is an Indian film director , environmental activist and author .

Life

Pradip Krishen completed his education in Delhi at Mayo College and St. Stephen's College (1966–1969), then in Oxford at Balliol College (1969–1971). From 1971 to 1976 he taught history at Ramjas College in New Delhi. After buying a 16mm film camera from Bell & Howell in 1973 , he began a career in the film business. He was an assistant at Shyam Benegal and the French documentary filmmaker Georges Luneau, who worked in India . He then worked for the television company TVNF in Delhi and as a freelance documentary filmmaker. He produced 81 short science documentaries for TVNF, some of which he filmed and directed.

Krishen made his feature film debut in Hindi film with the multi-award-winning Massey Sahib (1985) - an NFDC production that was only completed after four years of production. The following two productions, In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones (1989) and Electric Moon (1991) were in English and aimed at an international audience. The gambling in Delhi college comedy In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones has been awarded two National Film Awards honored and promoted in India as a cult film as with the support of the British television station Channel 4 produced Electric Moon . In all three films, Krishen worked with his then-wife Arundhati Roy as a writer and actress.

In the 1990s, Krishen gave up filming and made a name for himself as an environmental activist. Since 1995 he has dealt intensively with the tree species in India and the trees in his hometown Delhi. Krishen surveyed the city's tree population and photographed the trees. He published the books "Trees of Delhi: A Field Guide" (2006) and "Jungle Trees of Central India" (2014). In addition, he is active as a consultant in several landscape design projects.
