The Hindu is the third largest English-language daily newspaper in India (as of 2017). It has a circulation of around 1.4 million copies sold in Chennai and is distributed throughout India. In addition to the main location in Chennai, the newspaper is printed in 16 other locations, including Bangalore , Coimbatore , Hyderabad , Kochi , Madurai , Mangalore , Noida , Thiruvananthapuram , Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam .

The Hindu was founded in 1878 and initially appeared as a weekly newspaper with an edition of 80 copies. From 1889 the newspaper appeared daily.

The newspaper has been online since 1995 .
