Raj Mathur is a young engineer with a PhD in Darjiling who comes to Bombay with one goal - to become a great engineer.
In Bombay he goes looking for a distant relative and learns that he has long since left the place. He spends the night at a temple where he meets the philosophical street actor Jai, who becomes his close friend and gives him a place to live in the Basti.
Without relationships and experience, it's hard to find work in the city. Renu, a girl from Basti, finds a job for Raj in a construction company where she works as a secretary for Chabbria.
With this job, success comes very quickly; However, winning true love is a little more difficult, and goes so far as to cause innocent men to lose their lives.
