  • August 25 : During the siege of Sarajevo , the fire of the National Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, triggered by the effects of war, begins . The national library is shelled by the Serbian army. Thousands of irreplaceable works are lost in the nocturnal fire that lasted into the next day. More than two million books and documents are burned.
