Ivan Andreadis

Ivan Andreadis (born April 3, 1924 , † October 27, 1992 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak table tennis player . He won the world championship four times in doubles, once in mixed and four times with the ČSR team. He was twice vice world champion in singles.

Career

Andreadi's first club was Union I Prague, in 1936 he moved to Spartak Prague. He started as a defender, only later did he learn the attacking game. In 1937 he was CSSR youth champion. In 1939 he won the men's CSSR championship. He succeeded in doing this again in 1954 and 1961.

International career

Andreadis was first used in the national team in autumn 1945.

Between 1936 and 1963 he took part in world championships 13 times . In 1949 he became world champion for the first time when he and his doubles partner František Tokár beat his compatriots Bohumil Váňa / Ladislav Štípek . He repeated this success in 1951 with Bohumil Váňa by beating Hungary's Ferenc Sidó / József Kóczián in the final . In 1955 and 1957 he played doubles with Ladislav Štípek and won the title by victories against the Yugoslavs Vilim Harangozo / Žarko Dolinar (1955) and against the strong Japanese Toshiaki Tanaka / Ichiro Ogimura . He was double vice world champion in 1950 (with František Tokár) and 1956 (with Ladislav Štípek).

In individual he was twice vice world champion: in 1951 he lost in the final against Johnny Leach , in 1953 against Ferenc Sidó .

With the ČSR team he won the gold medal in 1947 , 1948 , 1950 and 1951 . In 1954 he won the mixed competition with the Hungarian Gizella Farkas. In the ITTF world rankings , he was ranked second in 1951.

In 1953 he was awarded the title of Master of Sports . In 1995 he was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame .

Private

Andreadis was a civil servant. He was married and the father of a daughter (* 1954).

In early 1958 he was temporarily banned from his association for smuggling.
