František Tokár

František Tokár (born May 25, 1925 in Veľké Chrašťany , † October 29, 1993 in Bratislava ) was a Slovak table tennis player and five-time world champion.

biography

Tokárs learned to play table tennis in 1934 from Father Jozef Paulík in the Salesian Monastery of Ružinov . He celebrated his first successes at the age of twelve as a Slovak youth champion. Three years later he won the Bratislava City Championship. Tokár was an 18-time Slovak champion and won gold twice at the Czech Republic championships in 1948.

From 1947 to 1963 Tokár took part in eight world championships . In 1949 he became world champion in doubles with Ivan Andreadis by beating their compatriots Bohumil Váňa / Ladislav Štípek in the final . A year later they were runner-up behind Ferenc Sidó / Ferenc Soós .

Tokár won the gold medal with the ČSR team in 1947 , 1948 , 1950 and 1951 .

After the end of his career, Tokár worked in the Slovak table tennis association, most recently he was its honorary president.
