Ferenc Soós

Ferenc Soós (born June 10, 1919 in Budapest ; † February 5, 1981 there ) was a Hungarian table tennis player . He was one of the best players in the world from 1936 to 1950 and was four times world champion and four times vice world champion.

International success

From 1936 to 1950 Soós took part in seven world championships . Only in 1939 did Hungary stay away from the World Cup for political reasons. In 1938 and 1949 he won gold with the Hungarian team. In 1947 he won in mixed with Gizella Farkas , in 1950 in doubles with Ferenc Sidó . In 1948 he lost with the Englishman Adrian Haydon the final in doubles against Štípek / Váňa (TCH). He won silver with the Hungarian team in 1937 and 1950 . In 1950 he also reached the final in the singles, in which he was defeated by Richard Bergmann despite a 2-0 lead.

In the ITTF world rankings 1947/48 Soós took 6th place.
