The 14th table tennis world championship took place from February 28th to March 7th, 1947 in Paris (France). The venue was the Palais des Sports . It was the first table tennis world championship after the Second World War .

18 men's teams competed. Germany was not represented. Defending champion Richard Bergmann was not allowed to take part because he earned money with exhibition fights during the war without permission.

The following 21 nations were represented: Egypt, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, India, Iran, Ireland, Channel Islands, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Palestine, Poland, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, USA, Wales.

  • The Shah of Persia donated the trophy for the men's doubles. Hence the cup was named Iran Cup .
