Mae Clouther
Mae Clouther (* 1917 , † February 1, 1997 in Portsmouth (New Hampshire) ) was an American table tennis player . At the 1947 World Cup , she won silver in doubles.
Career
Mae Clouther began her career in 1936. She initially took part in national tournaments in the USA. In 1947 she was nominated for the World Championships in Paris. Here she advanced two rounds in the individual, then she was eliminated by Helen Elliot (Scotland). In doubles with Reba Monness she achieved after Siegen u. a. against Marie Kettnerová / Květa Hrušková (Czechoslovakia) and Mary Detournay / Josee Wouters (Belgium) the final, which they lost against the Austro-Hungarian couple Gizella Farkas Trude Pritzi . In the mixed with Ladislav Moudry (Czechoslovakia) she failed in the first round. With the team she won bronze.
A year later, at the 1948 World Cup , she reached the quarter-finals in doubles with Englishwoman Lilian Barnes.
In 1984 Mae Clouther was inducted into the USATT Hall of Fame.
Private
Mae Clouther was married to Jim Clouther, the president of the American table tennis association USTTA (United States Table Tennis Association).
