The 65th Table Tennis World Championship 2020 is to take place in Busan , South Korea . Only the team competitions are held.

The World Cup was originally supposed to take place from March 22nd to 29th. After outbreaks of disease occurred in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic in the event city of Busan, the first round draw planned for February 22nd was postponed and a crisis meeting was called and finally a postponement of the entire tournament was announced. June 21-28 has been reserved for the time being. In April the date was postponed to September 27th to October 4th.

The participating teams are divided into three divisions with 24 teams each, each division is in turn divided into four groups of six, in which everyone plays against everyone in round-robin tournament mode. The world champion is only played in the top championship division, where the first in the group advance to the quarter-finals, the second and third into the last sixteen, from where it continues in knockout mode . The group fourth qualify for the quarter and the group fifth and sixth for the round of 16 of the games for places 13–24. Equivalent to this, qualification for the corresponding placement games takes place in the lower divisions. Each game is played in the best-of-five mode and thus consists of 3 to 5 singles, which, in turn, as best-of-five, consist of 3 to 5 sets. The placement at the next World Cup also depends on the final placements .
