Career

Even in her youth, Chen Meng achieved numerous international successes. In 2007 and 2008 she was Asian youth champion both individually and with the team. When she participated in the World Youth Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2011, she won seven gold medals: three times in team competition, once in singles, twice in doubles with Gu Yuting and once in mixed with Song Hongyuan. In 2010 she played her first adult tournament with the Austrian Open, where she beat the world rankings 18. Kasumi Ishikawa , before losing to Zhu Yuling , reached the semi-finals in the U-21 competition. As a result, she moved into the top 100 in the world rankings . From 2012 her international activity increased strongly, at the Qatar Open she won her first individual gold medal and at the Kuwait Open her first double gold medal on the World Tour . At the Grand Finals she and Ai Fukuhara beat number 6 in the world rankings, the semi-finals were lost 3: 4 to reigning world champion Ding Ning . After that, Chen Meng moved into the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time.

She played her first adult world championship in 2013 , where she lost to eventual winner Li Xiaoxia in the round of 16 and won bronze in doubles. At the Asian Championships she won bronze in singles and mixed as well as gold in doubles and with the team. As part of the Chinese team, she became world champion and winner of the Asian Games in 2014 , where she also won gold in doubles. At the 2015 World Cup , she could only take part in mixed with Emmanuel Lebesson , with whom she was among the last 32. But she managed to get into the final at the Grand Finals with victories over vice world champion Liu Shiwen , which she lost again to reigning world champion Ding Ning. In addition, she became vice Asian champion in singles, won bronze in doubles as well as gold in mixed and with the team with which she was again world champion in 2016 .

2017 got off to a successful start for Chen, winning gold in singles and doubles at the Qatar Open. In the singles final of the Asian Championships, where she won gold in doubles and with the team, she was the third Chinese in a row to be defeated by the surprise winner Miu Hirano . In doubles with Zhu Yuling, against whom she was eliminated in singles in the quarterfinals, she became vice world champion a little later , in August she moved up to second place in the world rankings for the first time. After winning gold in singles and doubles at the Grand Finals , she achieved first place in the new world rankings for the first time in January 2018 , and with the team she became world champion again . At the end of the year she managed to defend her title at the individual Grand Finals . In 2019, Chen became vice world champion in singles, returned to the top of the world rankings after her victory at the China Open and was able to win the Grand Finals for the third time in a row , something that only Liu Shiwen had previously achieved.

In 2020 she won the first World Tour tournament, the German Open, in singles and doubles.
