Career

World ranking positions of Li Xiaoxia

In the adult sector, Li Xiaoxia first appeared in 2002 when she won five silver medals in doubles with Guo Yue and one bronze medal in singles in five Pro Tour tournaments . As a result, she moved up to number 25 in the world rankings at the end of the year . In 2003 she took part in the Asian Cup, won gold with the team and reached the quarter-finals in three individual competitions. At the World Youth Championship she won bronze in singles and gold in doubles, mixed and team competitions. She secured her first gold medal on the Pro Tour in the double competition of the China Open 2004, and in the singles she won the China Open 2005.

In 2006 she took part in a world championship for the first time - the Chinese team took first place -, moved up to the top 10 in the world rankings and played for the first time in the World Cup , where she reached the quarter-finals. The following year, Li was able to win silver in singles and doubles at the World Championships and gold at the Grand Finals, having previously won six doubles and three singles titles on the Pro Tour. With her victory at the World Cup 2008 , among other things , she took first place in the world rankings for the first time in November this year. In the next three years, apart from the Asian Games in 2010, she could not win any major individual titles, so that she fell back to 8th place in the world rankings; In doubles, she became world champion in 2009 and 2011 and won the Grand Finals again in 2011. For most of 2011 she was also at the top of the world rankings - albeit for the last time in her career - and in 2012 she was nominated for the Olympic Games . There she won singles gold as well as at the 2013 World Cup (where she also won doubles), which means she had won all major titles at least once.

However, the gold medal in doubles at the Grand Finals 2013 was her last major title in an individual competition. In 2014 she won silver at the World Cup , at the World Championships in 2015, which was marked by injuries, bronze in singles and silver in doubles, and silver in singles at the 2016 Olympic Games ; Gold medals were only awarded at three World Tour tournaments and with the Chinese team. After the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Li ended her career.
