Hyun Jung-hwa (born October 6, 1969 in Busan , South Korea ) is a former table tennis player , four-time world champion and Olympic champion.
Between 1987 and 1993, Hyun Jung-hwa took part in all four world championships . In 1987 she won the doubles title with Yang Young-ja . In 1989 she won mixed with Yoo Nam-kyu . Two years later she was in the victorious joint team of North and South Korea. This event served as the template for the 2012 film Koria (As one), in which Hyun Jung-hwa is portrayed by the actress Ha Ji-won and herself has a brief appearance as the coach of the French national team. In 1993 she became world champion in singles, in mixed she won silver alongside Yoo Nam-kyu.
At the Olympic Games in 1988 she won doubles with Yang Young-ja. In 1992 she won bronze in singles and doubles with Hong Cha-ok .
In 1994 she retired from competitive sports. In 2010 she was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame . Today (2012) she is the director of the South Korean table tennis association.
