Qiao Hong
Qiao Hong ( Chinese 喬 紅 / 乔 红 , Pinyin Qiáo Hóng ; born November 21, 1968 in Wuhan ) is a former Chinese table tennis player and five-time world champion.
Career
Qiao Hong started playing table tennis when she was seven. In 1987 she was invited to the Chinese national team. She was nominated for an international assignment for the first time in 1988: At the International Championships in Moscow she came in second.
Qiao Hong is right-handed, she plays the shakehand style.
successes
Together with Deng Yaping , Qiao Hong formed the world's best doubles for several years.
At the 1989 World Cup in Dortmund, it was only used in individual competitions. Here she won the world championship in singles and doubles. She won further world titles in 1993 and 1995 with the Chinese team and in 1995 in doubles. She won silver four times at world championships: in singles in 1995, in doubles in 1991 and 1993 and with the team in 1991.
Qiao Hong participated in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. Both times she won gold in doubles alongside Deng Yaping. In 1992 she won silver and in 1996 bronze.
End of the international career
In 1996 she resigned from international competitive sport. That year she moved to Japan and joined the Panasonic Electric Co. Ltd. as a player-coach. In 2000 she returned to China and began studying sports education. From 2003 to 2005 she coached the Chinese national team. In 2005 she applied unsuccessfully for the post of head coach of the women's team.
