from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ge Xinai - formerly Ke Hsin-Ai ( Chinese  葛 新 爱 ; * 1953 ) is a former Chinese table tennis player with the greatest success in the 1970s. She won a title five times at world championships .

Ge Xinai played penholder style. She covered one side of her bat with a thin sponge covering with long pimples attached. A "normal" sponge coating of the same color was applied to the other side of the club. Depending on which side she was using, there was a different spin. Often she turned the club so that the trajectory of the ball was difficult for the opponent to calculate.

She took part in the World Championships in 1975 , 1977 and 1979 . Every time she won the gold medal with the Chinese women's team. She reached the semi-finals in 1975 and 1977 in singles and in 1977 in doubles with Zhang Li . She was most successful at the 1979 World Cup, when she became world champion in singles and mixed and reached the final in doubles. In the singles she defeated Song Suk Li from North Korea in the final. The mixed with Liang Geliang prevailed in the final against the Chinese Li Zhenshi / Yan Guili. Only in doubles with Li Zhenshi was she defeated in the final by the Chinese Zhang Deying / Zhang Li.

In the ITTF world rankings she was led in 1979 and 1980 at number one. In June 1981 she was no longer represented in the world rankings.

In 2003, Ge Xinai was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame .
