Tim Boggan

Tim Boggan (born September 25, 1930 ) is an American table tennis player , official and historian. He was honored with the ITTF Merit Award for his services to table tennis .

Career

Tim Boggan learned the game of table tennis from his father. However, he didn't start playing seriously until he was 19. He improved his playing strength and appeared in some American tournaments, also against strong players such as Bernhard Bukiet and Erwin Klein .

In 1966 he began to write articles in the magazine Table Tennis Topics , the official organ of the American table tennis association USTTA. He published his essays here for 13 years. In 1970 he was elected Vice President of the USTTA, two years later he became its President for a few years. As part of the ping-pong diplomacy , he traveled to China in 1971 and then reported extensively on the subject.

In 1983 he published his own magazine called "Timmy's". Around 1989 he started the History of US Table Tennis series . During the 1991 World Cup he was part of the ITTF Media Committee of the ITTF World Federation . In the same year he became an active member of the Swaythling Club International .

Tim Boggan was an English professor at New York University. He is married and has two sons, Scott (* 1961) and Eric (* 1963), who were both US table tennis players in the 1980s and also played in Germany for a number of years.
