Germany
- January 1 : Unemployment insurance in the German Reich is increased from 3 to 3.5%.
- January 14th : A communist group attacked the National Socialist Horst Wessel , who wrote the text for the SA battle song "Raise the flag" . He dies on February 23 from a gunshot wound. The NSDAP uses Wessel's death for propaganda purposes : he is stylized as a “ martyr of the movement ” .
- March 27 : The Müller II cabinet , a grand coalition , breaks up due to a dispute between the SPD and DVP over financial contributions to unemployment insurance. (Beginning of the end of the Weimar Republic )
- March 29 : Heinrich Brüning is appointed Reich Chancellor .
- June 30th : The Allied occupation of the Rhineland ends five years earlier than originally intended. With the withdrawal of troops, the victorious powers of the First World War followed agreements in the context of the Young Plan .
