Philippe Beaussant
Philippe Beaussant (born May 6, 1930 in Caudéran , Gironde department , † May 8, 2016 in Paris ) was a French novelist and musicologist .
Life
Philippe Beaussant studied at the Sorbonne and was initially a lecturer in French literature at Flinders University in Adelaide .
Beaussant became known for his advocacy of a new flourishing of French music from the Bourbon era . He founded the Institut de musique et danse anciennes and, supported by Vincent Berthier de Lioncourt, the Center de musique baroque de Versailles . His Lully biography was a basis for the film The King Dances .
In 2007 Beaussant was accepted into the Académie française ( Fauteuil 36 ) as the successor to the late writer Jean-François Deniau . The Charles Cros Academy also listed him as a member.
Philippe Beaussant died on May 8, 2016 and five days later the funeral service was held in the Saint-Louis Cathedral of Versailles .
Antoine Beaussant , born in 1957, is his son.
Honors
- 1993 Grand Prix du Roman for his novel Héloïse .
