- 588 BC BC : The Babylonian great king Nabū-kudurrī-uṣur II begins the two and a half year siege of Jerusalem , the capital of the kingdom of Judah under the renegade vassal king Zedekiah .
- 69 : Otho is proclaimed Emperor in Rome and instigates the Praetorian Guard to murder Emperor Galba and his heir Lucius Calpurnius Piso Frugi Licinianus . His status as the second emperor of the four-emperor year is weak from the start, since Vitellius had himself proclaimed emperor on January 2nd .
- 532 : During the Nika uprising of the circus parties against the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, insurgents set fire to several buildings, including the Great Palace and Hagia Sophia . For the first time there are calls for a new emperor.

- 1917 : The French Football Cup ( French Coupe de France de football ) is brought into being on the initiative of Henri Delaunay , who envisions a sporting event similar to that of the English FA Cup in France . The then French football umbrella organization Comité Français Interfédéral decided to put the idea of its general secretary into practice and to announce a cup competition in which all French teams - regardless of their association membership - were allowed to take part. The first games are played on October 7, 1917.
- 1966 : The football club BFC Dynamo is founded in East Berlin . The support from Minister Erich Mielke earned the association the reputation of a Stasi club .
