Jacob C. Colhouer (born January 15, 1922 in Altus , Oklahoma , † April 14, 1998 in Portland , Oregon ) was an American American football player . He played as a guard in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Cardinals and the New York Giants .

Player career

College career

Jake Colhouer was born in Altus and visited Warren the high school . After graduating from high school, he studied engineering at Oklahoma A&M College . At college , he played for their football team , the Oklahoma A&M Aggies , as a guard American football. In 1945 he and his team won the Cotton Bowl Classic 34-0 against Texas Christian University . In 1946 he played with his team at the Sugar Bowl against the team from Saint Mary's College of California . The Aggies won the game 33:13.

Professional career

Jacob Colhouer was established in 1946 by the Chicago Cardinals , along with fullback Pat Harder drafted . Colhouer was used by head coach Jimmy Conzelman as a guard on the offensive line alongside center Vince Banonis , guard buster Ramsey and the offensive tackle Bob Zimny and Walt Szot . His job was to block running back Frank Seno the way into the opposing end zone and to protect his own quarterback . The following year Seno was replaced by Charley Trippi .

After the regular season 1947 Colhouer and his team could celebrate winning the NFL championship . In the NFL final, the Philadelphia Eagles could be defeated 28:21. Trippi scored a touchdown with the help of the offensive line and gained 84 yards by running play. His teammate, running back Elmer Angsman , gained 159 yards. He also contributed to the victory of his team with two touchdowns. In the following season Colhouer failed with the Cardinals in the NFL final. They lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 7-0. Colhouer moved after the season to the New York Giants overseen by Steve Owen . He ended his career after another year of play in New York City .

After the playing career

After his playing career, Colhouer moved to Lake Oswego . There he became a successful businessman and founded a demolition company , was a co-founder of a bank and a Montessori school . He was married twice and had three children. Jake Colhouer died of lung cancer in 1998 .
