Maria Theresa of Bourbon Sicily
Maria Theresia Magdalena of Bourbon-Sicily (born January 15, 1867 in Zurich , † March 1, 1909 in Cannes ) was a princess of Bourbon-Sicily and by marriage Princess of Hohenzollern .
Life
Maria Theresa was the only child of Count Ludwig von Trani , who had died in 1886 , Prince of Bourbon-Sicily, a brother of the King of the Two Sicilies, Franz II, who died in 1894. Her mother Mathilde , Duchess in Bavaria and Countess of Trani, was a sister of the famous Doctor, Duke Dr. med. Karl Theodor , Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Duchess Sophie von Alençon, who died in the fire in the bazaar in Paris .
Maria Theresa was born on January 15, 1867 in the Swiss exile to which her parents had fled from Naples-Sicily, in Enge- Zurich in the "Venice Gut". In the family, Maria Theresia was called "Mädi". She had a close friendship with her cousin Archduchess Marie Valerie until the end of her life .
On June 27, 1889, Maria Theresa married the Hereditary Prince and later Prince Wilhelm von Hohenzollern at Sigmaringen Castle and from 1905 had the title "Her Royal Highness Ms. Princess Maria Theresia von Hohenzollern". The princely house of Hohenzollern was thus closely related to the houses of Habsburg and Wittelsbach through this marriage . From this marriage there were three children.
For many years the princess suffered from a spinal cord disease which withstood all the efforts of the doctors and which the most careful care and every consideration for climatic influences could not stop. The patient usually spent the summer in Bad Tölz , while in the winter months she visited Cannes. The climate in Sigmaringen was not so good for her; in addition, the high position of the princely residence palace was unfavorable for their movement. The prince often visited his sick wife in Bad Tölz and Cannes, just as her children always used the holidays to come to their mother's sick bed.
After a serious illness, presumably multiple sclerosis , she died on the morning of March 1, 1909 at the age of only 42 in Cannes.
