Prince Ludwig of Naples-Sicily, Count of Trani

Ludwig Maria (born August 1, 1838 in Naples , † June 8, 1886 in Paris ) was Count of Trani and Prince of Naples-Sicily .

Life

Count Ludwig von Trani

Prince Ludwig was a son of Ferdinand II , King of the Two Sicilies . He fell in love with his sister-in-law Marie's sister , the Duchess Mathilde in Bavaria . On June 5, 1861, Ludwig and Mathilde married in Munich . In the same year he was appointed the (nominal) regiment owner of the Galician Uhlan Regiment No. 13 , which was then given the suffix “Count Trani” and whose soldiers were generally called “Trani Uhlans”.

In 1867 the couple's first and only child, Maria Theresia , later Princess of Hohenzollern , was born. The marriage was not what they expected for either of them. While Ludwig drove his grief away with alcohol and with other women, his wife traveled around the world alone or with her sisters.
