  • 1783 : The Laki volcano on Iceland erupts. As a result of the outbreak, but mainly due to the severe climate changes that followed and a famine, around 10,000 people died, around a fifth of the Icelandic population.
  • 1953 : The city of Flint , Michigan , is hit by a tornado that kills 115 and injures 844 people.
