Toyoshima Yoshio
Toyoshima Yoshio ( Japanese 豊 島 与 志雄 ; born November 27, 1890 in Fukuoka Prefecture , † June 8, 1955 ) was a Japanese writer and translator.
Toyoshima published numerous short stories and novels, including Yamabuki no hana ( 山 吹 の 花 ; 1954). In addition, he was best known for translations by Western authors, primarily from French. Among other things, he translated Romain Rolland's Jean-Christophe and Victor Hugo's Les Misérables as well as the fairy tales from the Arabian Nights based on the English translation by Richard Francis Burton .
