George Neville

George Neville (* around 1433; † June 8, 1476 ) was Lord Chancellor of England and Archbishop of York .

Life

Neville was the youngest son of Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury and the brother of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick . He was at Balliol College of Oxford University trained. During the Wars of the Roses he became Bishop of Exeter in 1456 , after the victories of the House of York Lord Chancellor of England in 1460 and Archbishop of York in 1465. From then on, his fate followed a similar course to that of his brother, and when he died in 1471 he was imprisoned for three years. Neville was one of the earliest proponents of the study of the Greek language among the English clergy .
