The Clariden (also Claridenstock ) is a 3267  m above sea level. M. high mountain of the Glarus Alps in Switzerland .

location

The Clariden is located above the Klausen Pass in the mountain range Gross Schärhorn - Clariden - Bocktschingel - Gemsfairenstock (from west to east). This chain is in front of the Tödi to the northwest. To the north are the Urner Boden and the Klausenpassstrasse. The canton border between Glarus and Uri runs over the summit .

The Tödi is an eye-catcher from the summit .

Surname

The name Clariden is probably derived from Clareta , Latin clarus (bright, shining, shiny).

Routes to the summit

The Clariden can be reached from the Claridenhütte via the Claridenfirn . Another frequently used ascent route leads from the Klausen Pass over the Iswändli to the Clariden Vorgipfel and from there over a rock ridge secured with chains to the main summit. The key point is the transition from the Claridenvorgipfel to the main summit, which used to lead over the last part of the north face. Due to accidents and the fact that this passage is difficult to secure, chains were installed in the rock ridge above the north face a few years ago.

The north face funnel is an up to 50 ° steep ice tour. In midsummer it suffers more and more from exhaustion and is therefore only recommended in spring / early summer. There are also other ice routes in the north face (including direct access, first climbed by Urs Odermatt), which offer more challenging ice climbing . Another access leads from the south from the Hüfihütte over the Hüfigletscher to the Clariden. The Clariden is also a ski touring mountain in winter. Especially when the Klausenpass is opened in spring, it is a frequent destination for ski tourers .
