Dickson Paul Etuhu (born June 8, 1982 in Kano ) is a Nigerian football player .
Club career
Etuhu grew up in the London borough of Nunhead and attended St. Thomas the Apostle College . He is the oldest of four brothers, the youngest, Kelvin Etuhu , is also a professional footballer. First professional station was Manchester City , then he moved to Preston North End in January 2002 for 300,000 pounds and played there until November 2005.
Norwich City
In November 2005 it was awarded to Norwich City . Although his performance during the loan phase was rather mixed, he was signed by Norwich two months later for 450,000 pounds. His performance improved towards the end of the season and Etuhu was also able to convince the following season.
He scored his first league goal for Norwich in September 2006 against Southend United, on October 21 of the same year he scored the 1-0 winner over Cardiff City, helping his new coach Peter Grant , who two weeks earlier replaced Nigel Worthington , to one Victory in the first home game.
Sunderland
With promoted Sunderland FC he signed a contract in July 2007, the transfer fee was 1.5 million pounds. Etuhu immediately managed to gain a regular place at the Premier League club and completed 18 league appearances in the first half of the season.
National team career
Etuhu was already in the field of vision of the Nigerian national team before the 2002 World Cup , but was ultimately not taken into account. In September 2007 he was appointed to the national team of his country for the first time by national coach Berti Vogts , but had to cancel due to injury. The following month made his debut in a friendly against Mexico. The midfielder is also part of Nigeria's squad for the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana.
