Jérôme Napoléon Charles Bonaparte

Jérôme Napoléon Charles Bonaparte , Prince of Montfort (born August 24, 1814 in Trieste , † May 12, 1847 in Florence ) was the first son of Jérôme Bonaparte , King of Westphalia , and Catherine of Württemberg .

Life

Jérôme Napoléon was born ten months after his father was dethroned. He grew up in Rome with his family and grandmother Laetitia . As a child he was often ill and suffered from nerve cramps throughout his life. As Bonaparte, he was not allowed to serve in the French army because of his ousted uncle Napoleon . Therefore, in 1832, he went with his younger brother Plon-Plon to his uncle Wilhelm I , the King of Württemberg . This granted both of them a visit to the military academy in Ludwigsburg , where they were treated like royal princes of Württemberg. In contrast to his brother Plon-Plon, Jérôme Napoléon adapted to the conditions in Württemberg, learned the German language and served in the Württemberg army under the name Hieronymus, Prince of Montfort . In his career he rose to the rank of colonel . He was the holder of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . He died unmarried and childless.
