Kelvin Peter Etuhu (born May 30, 1988 in Kano ) is a Nigerian football player who is currently under contract with Carlisle United and had to serve an eight-month prison sentence from March to November 2011 for assault.

Career

Etuhu began his career in the Manchester City youth academy and received his first professional contract in November 2005. In 2005/05 he reached the final of the FA Youth Cup with the youth team after scoring the decisive goal in the semifinals against arch rivals Manchester United . In the final, however, they had to admit defeat to the offspring of Liverpool FC 2: 3.

In order to collect match practice in the professional area, he was awarded in January 2007 to fourth division AFC Rochdale . In his first competitive game in the senior sector against Wycombe Wanderers , he scored the goal as a substitute in the 80th minute to make it 1-1. Etuhu started the next three games, scoring another goal in a 5-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons before returning to Manchester City for treatment for a serious knee injury against Walsall FC .

After the summer break, he became the 24th academy player in Manchester City, who brought it to competitive appearances in the professional team. In his debut on September 25, 2007 in the League Cup game against Norwich City , the powerful and fast right winger gave the submission for the decisive 1-0 winner by Georgios Samaras in the 90th minute . As a result, he occasionally made short appearances in the Premier League , his outstanding performance in the 4-2 home win against Bolton Wanderers , when he came on in the second half and with one goal and one assist, which made it 4-2 , caused a stir -Success contributed. In March 2008 he was brought on loan by coach Ian Holloway to the relegation-threatened second division club Leicester City . There he did not succeed in asserting himself and he only came to four missions by the end of the season, while Leicester just missed relegation.

In the 2008/09 season Etuhu was a regular member of the squad in the first few weeks of the UEFA Cup and the Premier League , but appearances became rare in the period that followed. In April 2009 he was surprisingly in the starting line-up in the 1: 3 home defeat against Fulham and met his six-year-old brother Dickson Etuhu , a regular in midfield at Fulham. After the club was taken over by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan in September 2008 , the team was strengthened in the summer of 2009 for over 100 million pounds and, among others, Emmanuel Adebayor , Carlos Tévez and Roque Santa Cruz were signed , which further reduced Etuhu's chances of playing. He was therefore given up on August 22, 2009 for a year on loan to Cardiff City in the second division.

Recurring injury problems ensured that he was unable to establish himself with the Welsh candidate for promotion and was only on the starting line-up for seven of his 16 league appearances and was temporarily in Manchester for treatment. At the end of the season Cardiff reached the promotion play-offs. In the final in front of 82,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium , Etuhu came on the field after a quarter of an hour for the injured striker Jay Bothroyd , but Cardiff lost to Blackpool FC with 2: 3 despite two lead and thus missed promotion.

In February 2010, Etuhu was arrested by the police after three people were injured in a brawl in the "Manchester 235 Casino". He was charged with assault and sentenced in March 2011 to an eight month prison term. He had previously admitted knocking down a man and kicking the one lying on the ground three times. His contract with Manchester City had previously been terminated at the beginning of the year, where he was not part of the Premier League squad in the 2010/11 season and from which he had rejected a new contract offer.

After Etuhu had served his sentence, he trained at Portsmouth FC from November 2011 until he was made a contract offer until the end of the season on January 19, 2012, which he accepted. He made his league debut two days later in the 3-2 defeat by Cardiff City , but a week later he led "Pompey" to a 3-0 win over Peterborough United . After a hamstring injury, he scored his first goal in a 4-1 win over Birmingham City on March 20 . Due to the bad sporting and financial situation of the club, it was not clear whether Etuhu would leave the club or not.

On June 8, 2012, he signed a one-year contract with Barnsley FC . Barnsley coach Keith Hill tried to get Etuhu to Barnsley during the 2011/12 winter break, but at that time he chose Portsmouth FC. After playing for Barnsely in 46 games in two years, he moved to Bury FC in the summer of 2014 .

Others

Etuhu has not played any A-internationals so far, he has the opportunity to play for England or Nigeria . In May 2009 he announced that if he was nominated he would play for Nigeria.
