Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor (born February 26, 1984 in Lomé ) is a Togolese football player .
Career
society
Emmanuel Adebayor's career began in Togo at the CDS Lomé before he was discovered by scouts from the French first division club FC Metz in 1999 at a youth tournament in Sweden . Three years later he was in Ligue 1 for FC Metz for the first time on the pitch. In his first season he scored two goals in ten games and was relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the season . One league lower, he helped FC Metz gain direct resurgence with 13 goals this season.
After this season he moved to AS Monaco in 2003 . At the Monegasque he secured a regular place against the competition from Fernando Morientes and Shabani Nonda and scored eight goals in 31 appearances. However, Adebayor had little part in reaching the Champions League final, as he was mostly only a substitute and was no longer used after the quarter-finals. A season later he played for the Monegasque 34 times and scored nine goals.
During the winter break of the 2005/06 season, Adebayor moved to English club Arsenal . Mostly he played alongside Robin van Persie . From November 2007 and in the absence of his injured strike partner, his goal danger increased; so he scored a total of 24 goals in 36 league games in the 2007/08 season and, together with Fernando Torres, finished second in the Premier League's top scorers list . In 2008 he was the first Togo player to be voted Africa's Footballer of the Year .
For the 2009/10 season Adebayor moved to Manchester City and received a five-year contract there. In January 2011 Adebayor moved to Real Madrid on loan until the end of the season ; Madrid also had a purchase option for the Togolese striker. For Real, he scored five goals in 14 league games; the purchase option was not used. In August 2011, Adebayor was awarded to Tottenham Hotspur . After his first season with 17 goals in 33 appearances, he was finally signed in August 2012 after initially returning to Manchester City to prepare for the summer. His contract, which ran until the end of June 2016, was terminated on September 13, 2015. In January 2016 he joined Crystal Palace until the end of the season .
On the penultimate day of the 2016/17 winter transfer period, Adebayor switched to the Turkish autumn champion Istanbul Başakşehir . He signed a one and a half year contract with the Istanbul team .
He joined Kayserispor on August 26, 2019 .
National team
In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , Adebayor, son of Nigerian parents, scored eleven of Togo's 20 goals and thus had a large share in first place in qualification group A, which allowed his home country to participate in the World Cup for the first time. At the same time, he qualified with Togo for the African Cup of Nations 2006 . With his eleven goals, he was also the top scorer in the African qualifying zone . Adebayor was sitting in the national team bus that was attacked by FLEC rebels on the way to the 2010 African Cup in Angola shortly after entering the Cabinda exclave . He wasn't hurt. Due to the attack, he ended his national team career in April 2010 and returned to the national team for the 2013 Africa Cup.
