Career

society

El Hadji Diouf spent his childhood and youth in Saint-Louis (Senegal) and began his career at the soccer club ASC La Linguère de Saint-Louis, based there . There the striker was discovered by a talent scout from Europe because of his outstanding performance as a 17-year-old and was placed in France with FC Sochaux in 1999 . He then played at Stade Rennes and RC Lens .

The Liverpool bought Diouf from French club RC Lens for ten million pounds in the summer of 2002 due to its good performance in the 2002 World Cup . However, he had problems in Liverpool and was 14 months without a goal. In the 2004/05 season he was loaned to Bolton Wanderers and then sold.

His greatest successes were the French runner-up in 2002 and also second place at the 2002 African Cup in Mali . Diouf was named Africa's Footballer of the Year in 2001 and 2002 , and was also named BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2002 . In 2004 he was included in the FIFA 100 , the list of the 125 best living football players, by the world football association FIFA .

In July 2008, joined Diouf to Sunderland for a fee of 2.5 million pounds .

After only half a year in Sunderland, he moved to Blackburn Rovers in January 2009 . The transfer fee amounted to approx. € 2.2 million. In the summer of 2011 he was loaned to the Glasgow Rangers before he moved to the Doncaster Rovers in the English second division for three months on October 31, 2011 . He then signed a new contract until June 30, 2013 with Doncaster Rovers.

For the 2012/13 season Diouf moved to Leeds United in the second-rate Football League Championship .

From late 2014 to early 2015, Diouf was without a club. In mid-2015 Diouf moved to the Malaysian soccer club Sabah FA , where he wears the shirt number 21.

National team

His national team career began in April 2000 against Benin . By 2005 El Hadji Diouf completed over 40 international appearances and scored 16 goals for his country.

In qualifying for the 2002 World Cup , he was Senegal's most successful player. Nine of Senegal's 14 goals - including two hat tricks - were shot by El Hadji Diouf. Because of his scoring danger, he was called "Serial Killer" by his French and Senegalese fans.

In October 2007 he announced his retirement from the national team. However, he revised this statement three weeks later.

On April 2, 2009, the player announced his resignation from the national team to the Senegalese association.
