About this picture

Wees ( Danish Ves ) is a municipality between Flensburg and Glücksburg in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

Location and municipality

Wees borders on the two districts of Flensburg, Mürwik and Engelsby, as well as its district Vogelsang . To the north lies the town of Glücksburg .

In addition to the main town Wees ( Ves ), Oxbüll ( Oksbøl ), Rosgaard ( Rosgård ), Ulstrup , Ulstrupfeld ( Ulstrupmark ) and Weesries ( Vesris ) are in the municipality. The small town of Himmershoi ( Himmershøj ) and the district of Wees-Bahnhof are also directly south of the main town of Wees . To the north of the main town are the small Büllemoos and Rothenhaus .

history

The large stone grave in Wees indicates an early settlement of the region. The toponym of the village probably comes from the Viking Age and means swampy meadow . There is still a moor in the municipality today. The name of the small place is first attested in 1483. In 1582 wees consisted of two katen and six hooves . In 1685 there was another hoof. The said hooves are probably still partly recognizable today. Nowadays Wees has grown together with Flensburg and is considered a suburb. Since around 2015, Flensburg has been so densely populated that it is no longer possible to create new living space there. The growth of the city and the surrounding area is inhibited and the issue of incorporation therefore plays a role again.

politics

Community representation

Since the local elections in 2018, the municipal council has 14 seats. Of this, five seats to the CDU , three seats to the SPD , three seats on the voter community FWW and two seats to the SSW , a seat on a non-attached community representative.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Divided obliquely by gold and blue on the left. Above is a scythe on the left with the leaf facing outwards, below five leafed cattails next to each other in mixed up colors. "

economy

The economic structure is not uniform. There are both agricultural districts and residential areas whose residents commute to Flensburg.

Many businesses and service providers have settled in the Birkland industrial park. Since 2011, the area has been expanded in the direction of the B 199 (Birklück industrial park).

traffic

The main traffic artery is the B 199 from Flensburg to Kappeln , from which the main road to Glücksburg branches off. A railway connection to the Flensburg circular railway existed from 1885 to 1953. From 1925 to 1934 Wees could be reached via this route with the Flensburg tram . The nearest bus stop in Flensburg can be reached in around twenty minutes on foot.
