history

The place was probably founded in 1362 after the Second Marcellus Flood by Frisians who had lost their villages. The assumption is based on the place name, which probably means houses in Teten and is derived from the Frisian personal name Thede or Thade.

The place was originally founded on the other bank of the Sorge and moved around 1500 because it was threatened by the migrating inland dunes. In the vicinity of the settlement there used to be a port, from which timber and peat were shipped, as well as a customs post.

Care shipping only came to a standstill at the beginning of the First World War . In the forest chapel, however, there is still a model ship (although none of the care ships).

Tetenhusen belonged to the Friedrichswiese community until it was dissolved on April 1, 1938. Tetenhusen was one of the three successor communities.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Above a green shield base, inside a silver wavy bar, in gold a red fox turned to the left, ready to fight. In the upper right corner a green cattail stuck below. "
