The zu Klampen Verlag is a German publisher .

history

The publishing house was founded in 1983 by Dietrich zu Klampen , Rolf Johannes and Gerhard Schweppenhäuser , at that time students of education and philosophy, in Lüneburg . They were convinced that a series of lectures offered at their university would be of interest beyond their own lecture halls. The first publication by zu Klampen Verlag was "Crisis and Criticism - On the Topicality of Marx's Theory".

In 1998 zu Klampen Verlag received the Lower Saxony Publishing Prize. With this, the state also paid tribute to the merit of preserving the legacy of critical theory and of supporting current developments in this area with journalistic support.

It didn't stop there, however. Bit by bit zu Klampen expanded its program and as a small independent publisher has secured a permanent place in the German-language publishing landscape. The popular editions by Soma Morgenstern, Herbert Marcuse and Ulrich Sonnemann also contributed to the company's reputation. The essay series edited by Anne Hamilton, in which well-known authors publish articles on politics, philosophy, religion, society and art, among other things, puts zu Klampen Verlag in the media spotlight again and again. In 2007 he took over and completed the Hanoverian Postskriptum Verlag as well as the Lyrik Edition published there by Heinz Kattner. Kattner made it possible for some of today's outstanding poets to publish for the first time.

Since 2003, the headquarters of the publishing house has been in the Völksen district of the city of Springe .

program

The program, which originally began with journalistic contributions to critical theory , in 2010 included philosophy, social theory, contemporary history and politics as well as the Lyrik Edition published by Heinz Kattner , the series on Klampen Essay and, since 2007, the series of regional detective novels published by Susanne Mischke .

From 1994 a complete edition by the Jewish writer Soma Morgenstern was published. In 1998 zu Klampen took over the Hanoverian publishing house Postscriptum and completed its Lyrik Edition 2007, edited by Heinz Kattner . Today the publication of regional titles is an important segment of the publishing house.

Writings by authors who can be assigned to or are close to critical theory continue to form a main contingent in the program. The studies of authority and family by Max Horkheimer et al. (1936) were reissued. The posthumous writings of the philosopher Herbert Marcuse have been published since 1998 and in 2004, on the 25th anniversary of his death, a nine-volume edition of his published, but mostly out of print works was published. In 2005 the first volume of a ten-volume edition of the writings of the philosopher Ulrich Sonnemann was published . Other authors are Leo Löwenthal , Alfred Schmidt , Christoph Türcke and Gerd Lüdemann .

Today the main program of zu Klampen mainly comprises non-fiction books from the fields of philosophy, social theory, (time) history and politics as well as regionalia and a few regional crime novels. Anne Hamilton's essay series continues to be an important part of the publishing program.
