In 1977 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Frankfurt . From 1977 to 1986, Türcke worked as a university assistant for Protestant theology and its didactics at the University of Lüneburg and completed his habilitation in 1985 in the Philosophy Department at the University of Kassel . In 1987 he was a guest director at the Junge Theater Göttingen and from 1991–93 guest professor of philosophy at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre , Brazil . Since 1995 he has also had a license to teach philosophy at the University of Leipzig .

Research interests

Christoph Türcke has become a critic of religion through his theology studies and has come close to the critical theory of Horkheimer and Adorno as well as to Freud's psychoanalysis . What he added to both conceptions is a theory of traumatic repetition compulsion as a cultural donor. He traces the mentalization of Homo sapiens back to the logic of compulsive repetition as well as the cultural techniques of writing and payment. The return of Stone Age archaicism under high-tech conditions plays a central role in his contemporary diagnoses.

In 1994 DIE ZEIT published Türcke's nine-part series Religionswende , in which he deals with religious terms ( blasphemy , martyrdom, grace, etc.) that do not deviate from profane everyday language.

In 2003, under the impression of September 11, 2001, his book Fundamentalism - Masked Nihilism was published , in which he interprets religious fundamentalism and fanaticism as latent, self-ignoring unbelief.

In his main social theoretical work Excited Society. Philosophy of Sensation (2002), Türcke interprets the sensationalism that pervades all areas of life as a disguised and inflated continuation of religious epiphany and analyzes how human perception and instinctual structure are rearchaized under the spell of constant sensational shocks. In his Philosophy of Dreams (2008) he pursued this approach further and, in confrontation with Freud, presented a drive-theoretical genealogy of thought and language. The tendency towards researching under high-tech conditions has also led Türcke to statements in the education debate, especially in Hyperaktiv! Critique of Attention Deficit Culture (2012) and Teachers' Twilight. What the new learning culture is doing in schools (2016). Türcke does not regard ADHD as a disease in a healthy environment, but as the outpost of a global attention deficit culture that vitally jeopardizes the ability to concentrate and perseverance. He sees the “new learning culture” as a neoliberal measure that encourages these tendencies.

In more! Philosophy of Money (2015), Türcke followed the substitution processes of the forms of money from the Paleolithic to the modern financial market. He understands money as a debt repayment means that has its origin in the sacred sacrifice and advocates the thesis that money has not come out of its sacred spell to this day.

Racism debate

In 1993, Türcke triggered a concrete debate on racism with his lecture at the magazine's congress . Because he described the skin as the first-rate respiratory and perceptual organ and did not want to use the term race as a construction, he was suspected of a racist attitude in the heated atmosphere immediately after the right-wing extremist arson attack in Solingen. In the wake of the Congress took place in the magazine concretely and in other media to a months-long controversy about this.
