  • 1744 : The British sailing ship Victory is sighted for the last time off the Channel Islands by other ships in its fleet. During the night it goes down with the 1,150-strong crew in a storm.
  • 1992 : 43 people die in the crash of El-Al-Flug 1862 in high-rise buildings in the Amsterdam suburb of Bijlmermeer.
  • 2001 : A Tupolev Tu-154 of Sibir Air , on a scheduled flight from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk , is accidentally shot down by a surface-to-air missile of the Ukrainian Navy during a military exercise on the Black Sea . All 78 people on board die.
