Michael David "Mike" Adamle (born October 4, 1949 in Euclid , Ohio ) is an American sports journalist and former American football player. He hosted the American Gladiators television series for several years . From January to November 2008 Adamle was employed as a backstage interviewer, ring commentator and general manager at the largest wrestling promotion, World Wrestling Entertainment .
Private
Mike Adamle grew up in Kent , Ohio and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1967. He then studied at Northwestern University in Evanston , Illinois. In 1999 he was inducted into the Kent City Schools Hall of Fame.
Adamle suffers from epilepsy , which he initially hid, but later dealt with openly. For his work with the Epilepsy Foundation , where he is currently a member, he received the Epilepsy Foundation's Personal Achievement Award at the 2007 Richard N. Rovner Awards Dinner.
National Football League
Mike Adamle played from 1971 to 1977 as a running back in the NFL for the clubs Kansas City Chiefs , New York Jets and Chicago Bears .
Sports journalist
Adamle has been in American sports television for over 30 years. From 1977 to 1983 he worked for the sports broadcaster NBC Sports , where he worked both as a studio commentator and as an outside reporter at various events, including three Super Bowls . From 1983 to 1989 he was finally employed as a sports reporter for ABC 7 Chicago .
American gladiators
Between 1989 and 1994 Adamle worked for ABC Sports and was also co-host of the American cult television show American Gladiators . He was also once a participant in an episode with famous people that aired towards the end of last season. He was also a co-commentator on the offshoot "International Gladiators".
After American Gladiators ended, he worked as a reporter on ESPN2 and NBC 5 Chicago.
Others
Adamle and a colleague, NBC sports presenter Fred Roggin, were sideline reporters for the only season, the WWF- sponsored XFL Football League in 2001. He also served as a commentator on the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics .
In July 2006 Mike Adamle was a reporter for the Built Ford Tough Series of the international bull riding organization “Professional Bull Riders” (PBR).
World Wrestling Entertainment
On January 25, 2008, Mike Adamle made his debut for the WWE as an interviewer at the Royal Rumble 2008 , which was held at Madison Square Garden . Then you put him in the same role at RAW until he was on April 15, 2008 at the wrestling show ECW co-ring commentator next to Tazz and replaced Joey Styles . Many noted that Adamle made constant mistakes while at ECW. Paul Heyman, the former ECW owner, and former wrestler Lance Storm , criticized him publicly.
On July 28, 2008, Shane McMahon, the son of the WWE owner, announced that Adamle would be the new general manager of RAW. At RAW on November 3, 2008, Adamle announced his resignation as general manager. Then he asked for his contract termination and left the WWE.
