Evanston is a city in Cook County in the northeast of the US -amerikanischen State of Illinois on Lake Michigan . Evanston is located north of Chicago and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area . The city was founded in 1836 and in 2000 had a population of 74,239.
The city was named after the doctor and politician and later governor of Colorado , John Evans .
The city is known not only for its Northwestern University campus and other educational institutions, but also for the headquarters of Rotary International .
