Elmhurst is a suburb of Chicago in DuPage County and Cook County , Illinois , United States . According to the 2008 census, there were 46 013 residents in the city.
history
Members of the Potawatomi tribe who settled along Salt Creek south of where the city was to develop are the first known residents of the area. Around 1836 European immigrants settled on parcels of the same creek. In 1842, Gerry Bates from Ohio planted a parish on a plot of treeless land on the future city center .
