Glenview is a municipality (with the status " Village ") in Cook County in the northeast of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 , Glenview had 44,692 residents.

Glenview is located in the northern suburbs of Chicago a few kilometers west of Lake Michigan . The place is at 42 ° 04'11 "north latitude and 87 ° 47'16" west longitude and extends over 35 km². The Wisconsin border is around 50 km north.

Neighboring towns to Glenview are Wilmette (east), Skokie (southeast), Niles , Morton Grove and Golf (south), Des Plaines (southwest), Prospect Heights (west), Northbrook (north) and Northfield (northeast).

Downtown Chicago is 19 miles south-southeast of Glenview. The closest other major cities are Milwaukee , Wisconsin (118 km north) and Rockford (134 km west-northwest).

Glenview is between Interstates 94 and 294 which run north from Chicago. Illinois State Routes 21 and 43 run through Glenview . All other streets are city streets without trunk road numbering.

The Milwaukee District / North Line runs through Glenview , a METRA line leading north from Chicago , a local transport system in the greater Chicago area comparable to a S-Bahn. There are two small train stations in the city.

The Amtrak railway line also has a stop in Glenview.

About 4 km northwest of the community area is the Chicago Executive Airport , which is mainly used for charter flights. Chicago O'Hare International Airport is 13 miles southwest of Glenview.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census , Glenview had 44,692 people in 16,013 households. The population density was 1276.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.67 people in each of the 16,013 households.

The racial the population was composed of 83.2 percent white, 1.0 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 12.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 5.8 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.

24.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 55.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 19.7 percent were 65 years or older. 52.6 percent of the population was female.
