Park Ridge is located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago on the east bank of the Des Plaines River , one of the two headwaters of the Illinois River, which flows into the Mississippi . The city is located at 42 ° 00'43 "north latitude and 87 ° 50'30" west longitude and extends over 18.36 km². Park Ridge is predominantly in Maine Township , but also extends into Leyden and Norwood Park Township .

Neighboring locations to Park Ridge are Glenview (on the northern city limits), Morton Grove (7.9 km northeast), Niles (on the eastern and northeastern city limits), the Chicago area (on the southeastern city limits), Harwood Heights and Norridge ( on the southern city limits), Rosemont (on the southwestern city limits) and Des Plaines (on the western city limits).

Downtown Chicago is 16 miles to the southeast, Rockford is 75 miles to the west-northwest, Wisconsin's capital Madison is 13 miles to the northwest, and Milwaukee is 76 miles to the north.

Interstate 294 runs along the western outskirts of Park Ridge and joins Interstate 94 north of the city and is the fastest route from Chicago to Milwaukee. The southern edge of Park Ridge is formed by Interstate 90 , the longest interstate highway in the country at 4958 km . On the southern outskirts of Park Ridge, at the confluence with Illinois State Route 72, is the northern terminus of Illinois State Route 171 . All other roads are subordinate routes as well as inner-city connecting roads.

With the Union Pacific / Northwest Line , a line of METRA , a local transport system in the greater Chicago area comparable to a German S-Bahn, runs through the center of Park Ridge. There are two METRA stops within the city: Park Ridge and Dee Road .

The O'Hare International Airport of Chicago is located 9.5 km southwest of Park Ridge.

According to the 2010 census , Park Ridge had 37,480 people in 14,118 households. The population density was 2041.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.62 people in each of the 14,118 households.

The racial the population was composed of 93.4 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 3.7 percent Asian and 1.0 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.7 percent of the population.
