Randall Mark "Randy" Hultgren (born March 1, 1966 in Park Ridge , Cook County , Illinois ) is an American politician . From 2011 to the end of 2018 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Randy Hultgren attended the Wheaton Academy in West Chicago until 1984 and then studied at Bethel University in Saint Paul ( Minnesota ). After studying law at the Chicago-Kent College of Law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. From 1988 to 1990 he worked for Congressman Dennis Hastert . At the same time he embarked on his own political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1994 and 1998 he served on the DuPage County County Council . From 1999 to 2007 he was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives ; between 2007 and 2010 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the 2010 congressional election , Hultgren was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat Bill Foster on January 3, 2011 . He was and is a member of the Agriculture Committee , the Committee on Science, Space and Technology and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Finance Committee. It also belongs to numerous sub-committees.

In the 2012 congressional election , Hultgren won 59:41 percent of the vote against the Democrat Dennis Anderson. In 2014 and 2016 he was confirmed in his office. In the 2018 election he was beaten by Lauren Underwood (D) with 52.5% of the vote. He therefore resigned on January 3, 2019.
