Edwin Bruce Brooks (born September 20, 1868 in Newton , Jasper County , Illinois , †  September 18, 1933 there ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1923 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edwin Brooks was a cousin of Congressman Edmund H. Hinshaw of Nebraska . He attended the public schools of his home country and studied at Valparaiso University in Indiana until 1892 . From 1894 to 1912 he served as a school councilor in various cities in Illinois. He also worked in the banking industry in Newton. Between 1914 and 1918 he was also a school councilor in Jasper County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1918 congressional election , Brooks was elected to the 23rd  constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat Martin D. Foster on March 4, 1919 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1923 . In 1922, Brooks was not confirmed. Between 1924 and 1930 he was Superintendent of Charities in Illinois; from 1930 to 1932 he served as his state's deputy attorney general . He died in Newton on September 18, 1933.
