Thompson W. McNeely

Thompson Ware McNeely (born October 5, 1835 in Jacksonville , Morgan County , Illinois , †  July 23, 1921 in Petersburg , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1873 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thompson McNeely attended public schools in his home country and then Jubilee College in Peoria . He then studied until 1856 at Lombard College in Galesburg . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and his admission to the bar in 1857, he began to work in this profession in Petersburg. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1862 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Illinois Constitution.

In the congressional elections of 1868 McNeely was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the ninth constituency of his state , where he succeeded Lewis W. Ross on March 4, 1869 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1873 . In 1872 he renounced another candidacy.

In the years 1872, 1892 and 1896 Thompson McNeely took part as a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. Since 1910 he held the post of Masters in Chancery in Menard County . He died on July 23, 1921 in Petersburg.
