Thomas L. Owens

Thomas Leonard Owens (born December 21, 1897 in Chicago , Illinois , †  June 7, 1948 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American politician . In 1947 and 1948 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Owens attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Northwestern University and DePaul University . During the First World War he took a military training course in 1918. After a subsequent law degree at Loyola University and his admission to the bar in 1927, he began to work in this profession in Chicago.

Politically, Owens became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1946 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the Seventh Constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded William W. Link on January 3, 1947 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on June 7, 1948. This time was determined by the events of the beginning Cold War .
