Therein M. LaHood (born July 5, 1968 in Peoria , Peoria County , Illinois ) is an American politician . He has represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives since 2015 .

Career

In it LaHood is the son of former US Secretary of Transportation and Congressman Ray LaHood . In 1986 he graduated from the Spalding Institute in Peoria. He then studied until 1990 at Loras College in Dubuque , Iowa . After studying law at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago , he was admitted to the bar in 1997. Between 1997 and 2001, he served as a district attorney in various counties in Illinois, and from 2001 to 2005, he served as a federal district attorney for the state of Nevada . From 2003 to 2005 he also taught at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas . He then returned to Peoria, where he practiced as a lawyer.

Politically, Darin LaHood joined the Republican Party . He served in the Illinois Senate from 2011 to 2015 . Following the resignation of Congressman Aaron Schock , LaHood was elected as a candidate for his party's eighteenth constituency of the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on September 10, 2015. Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
