Daniel Bever "Dan" Crane (born January 10, 1936 in Chicago , Illinois , † May 28, 2019 in Danville , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1979 and 1985 he represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dan Crane was the younger brother of Congressman Phil Crane, born in 1930 . He attended the public schools of his home country and then Hillsdale College until 1958 . This was followed by a degree at Indiana University until 1963 . He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1965 . One of his subjects was dentistry. Between 1967 and 1970 Crane was a captain in the US Army . After that he practiced as a dentist. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1978 congressional election , Crane was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd  constituency of Illinois , where he succeeded George E. Shipley on January 3, 1979 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1985 . Since 1983 he represented the 19th district of his state there as the successor to Tom Railsback . Like his brother, Dan Crane was considered a Conservative MP. In 1983 he was reprimanded in Congress for sexual misconduct.

In 1984 he was not re-elected. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Dan Crane returned to work as a dentist. He lived in Danville .
