Charlotte Thompson Reid

Charlotte Thompson Reid (born September 27, 1913 in Kankakee , Illinois , †  January 24, 2007 in Geneva , Illinois) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1971 she represented the state of Illinois in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charlotte Leo Thompson, her maiden name, attended East Aurora High School and then Illinois College in Jacksonville . For some time she performed as an entertainer under the name Annette King . At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In the 1962 congressional election , she was elected to the 15th  constituency of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where she succeeded Noah M. Mason on January 3, 1963 . After four re-elections, she could remain in Congress until her resignation on October 7, 1971 .

Between 1971 and 1976, Charlotte Reid was a member of the Federal Communications Commission . Later she worked in the of between 1983 and 1985 President Ronald Reagan established Task Force on International Private Sector ( President's Task Force on International Private Enterprise with). From 1984 to 1988 she was on the board of directors of the Hoover Institution . Charlotte Reid died on January 24, 2007 in Geneva.
